A contemporary Afro-Caribbean rhythm collective creating immersive live experiences through groove, movement, atmosphere, and collective energy.

Vanilla Caliente

How Vanilla Caliente began.

Before discovering Afro-Caribbean rhythm traditions, Gabriel Timar came from a background shaped by groove-oriented music, metal, and the physical energy of rhythm.

After moving to Amsterdam and connecting with musicians from different cultural backgrounds, he encountered a musical world centered around percussion, movement, improvisation, and collective interaction.

What began as musical curiosity gradually evolved into Vanilla Caliente — a contemporary rhythm collective exploring groove as atmosphere, movement, and social connection.

Rhythm as a shared language.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Inspired by Afro-Caribbean traditions, Vanilla Caliente creates immersive live experiences built around rhythm, movement, and collective energy.
Through improvisation, layered percussion, horn-driven orchestrations, and ensemble interaction, the project creates immersive performances rooted in movement, groove, and shared energy.
Inspired by Kompa, Méringue, Calypso, Zouk, and contemporary jazz practices, the music reimagines Afro-Caribbean traditions through a contemporary large-ensemble lens.

MOVEMENT

Vanilla Caliente approaches rhythm as a living, collective language shaped through movement, interaction, and groove.

IMMERSION

Inspired by Afro-Caribbean traditions and contemporary large-ensemble performance, the project creates immersive social music experiences.

A rotating collective built through collaboration.

Vanilla Caliente brings together musicians from different cultural and musical backgrounds through rehearsal, experimentation, and live performance.

Shared process

Rather than functioning as a fixed ensemble, the project evolves through collaboration, shared process, and changing live formats — from compact groove-based line-ups to expanded large-ensemble performances.

The collective reflects the social nature of the music itself:
open, rhythmic, interactive, and constantly evolving.

The project is shaped by musicians from different cultural backgrounds, allowing Afro-Caribbean traditions to be approached through dialogue, exchange, and contemporary collaboration.

VISION

Beyond the stage

Vanilla Caliente is developing as an evolving artistic platform focused on rhythm research, cultural exchange, large-ensemble performance, and collaborative creation across different musical communities.

Live Performance

A Vanilla Caliente performance is built around rhythm, movement, and collective momentum.

The music moves between arranged sections and open spaces, allowing the ensemble to respond to the room, the audience, and the energy of the moment.

Each performance is designed as an immersive rhythm experience — balancing listening, dancing, improvisation, and large-ensemble power.
